Computer Engineering Department Holds First Meeting for Fall 2024

The Computer Engineering Department conducted its first departmental meeting of the Fall 2024 semester, led by newly appointed chairperson, Dr. Susan Al Naqshbandi. The meeting was attended by key faculty members, including Dr. Dilan Ahmed, Dr. Karzan Hussein Sharif, Mr. Aree Ali Muhammed, Mr. Hussam Mouhammad Alhomsy, Ms. Sara Azad Ahmed, Ms. Shivan Shkur Mahmood, and Ms. Shayan Nadr Faraj.

Key Highlights:

  1. Introduction of the New Chairperson
    Dr. Susan Al Naqshbandi introduced herself and shared a brief overview of her academic background, formally taking over as the department chair.
  2. Congratulations to Dr. Karzan Hussein Sharif
    The department congratulated Dr. Karzan Hussein Sharif on his appointment as a faculty member in both CPS and CPE.
  3. Recognition of Former Chairperson
    Dr. Susan recognized the contributions of the previous chairperson, Dr. Fryad Khalid Mohamed, and expressed best wishes for his future success.
  4. Upcoming Panel Talk Event
    The department discussed the upcoming panel talk scheduled for October 13, 2024, organized by student representative Mirko Awat Mahmoud, with two panelists from Mustansiriyah University and AUIS.
  5. External Evaluators for Graduation Project
    Plans were made to invite external evaluators for the first graduation project presentation on October 10, 2024, aiming to better prepare students.
  6. Discussion on Student Participation in UD
    The team discussed rewards for students who participated in the UD event, deciding that participants would receive certificates and 3 bonus marks.
  7. Sustainability in Curriculum
    Dr. Susan emphasized integrating sustainability into courses, in line with KUST’s sustainability policy, especially for subjects with practical components.
  8. Software and Lab Updates
    Ms. Shayan Nadr Faraj offered to assist faculty with obtaining the most updated software for the department’s PCs.
  9. Collaboration with Industry for Job Opportunities
    Faculty were encouraged to share any job opportunities with graduates, as part of enhancing vocational prospects for KUST alumni.
  10. ICT and Huawei Partnership
    Ms. Sara Azad shared insights on leveraging Huawei’s courses for CPE and CPS students. The team also congratulated Mr. Hussam Mouhammad Alhomsy for passing Huawei’s instructor exam.
  11. Activating the Grade Book in MyKomar
    Dr. Susan requested that all instructors activate the newly added Grade Book feature in their MyKomar dashboards.
